I joined the UK Parliament as a procedural advisor in 2020. I worked on a number of Select Committees and ran several inquiries ranging from PPE procurement to railway infrastructure. I also produced several reports concerning MP misconduct and helped implement a new House of Commons Code of Conduct.

The problem:

As I worked with international delegations and travelled abroad to discuss corruption in Parliaments, I quickly realised that many countries are trying to replicate the UK scrutiny system, when in practice, these systems do not work. There are also a lack of resources which explain how to create a good, ethical, transparent Parliament.

so here’s the deal

so here’s the deal

I have created an informal toolkit for creating an inclusive and transparent Parliament, any questions, feel free to email me!

1.

What makes a transparent political system?

Establish a credible opposition which receives funding and resources. Over time, this should allow the development of Committees made up of cross-party MPs as a space for communication and cohesion.

2.

Ensure that in the Parliament, there a set of rules and guidelines that must be adhered too. These must be implemented and explained at the beginning of each Parliament.

3.

Add independence to the system. For politicians to be held accountable, there must be a formal, separate system by which politicians are investigated.

but this is just the beginning....
